Our Limpopo Champ Camp was held in the closing weeks of winter at the stunning Lapa Lala Wilderness reserve famous for its success in Rhino conservation.

  • The Capricorn District Men’s Forum did a superb job of selecting delegates from four different municipal areas in Limpopo.

  • They arrived just before sunset on Friday evening from their different regions in a bus and four taxis and gathered for a briefing session on a dry and dusty clearing.

  • Participants ranged in age from 25 to 83 and included two men with disabilities. We were immediately impressed by their level of passion, humility and engagement.

  • After being divided into seven groups and eating dinner the men gathered their belongings and set out into the bush by torchlight for the short walk to their tents.

  • Saturday morning’s activities began at 07h00 with an energetic PT session and over the next 2 days the men participated in seven different activities each followed by a debriefing session to bring home the NOEXCUSE message and what true masculinity means.

  • One of the highlights of the camp was the Saturday night concert where each group performed a play, song or poetry item with the NOEXCUSE theme.

  • The facilitated champion conversations were particularly rich as men opened their hearts and shared their stories. Once again many of the participants described the weekend as life changing and vowed to bring positive change to their families and communities.

  • The camp closed with the handing out of certificates and the men taking the NOEXCUSE pledge.
