1-3 November 2019 | Attendees: 90 | Arriving at the beautiful Platberg Eco Park just outside Harrismith on Friday night the group displayed a mix of anxiety and scepticism but by early Saturday morning were fully committed and engaged with the process.

3 October 2019 | Attendees: 90 | Two sessions were held on the same day, a morning session ran from 10h00 to 12h00 at the Desmond Tutu Hall and an evening session from 17h00 to 19h00 at the VUT Lapa Lounge.

24 September 2019 | Attendees: 1600 | On a bustling Alexandra township Saturday morning 61 of 80 teams that had signed up arrived to play ball in this six-a-side FAN #NoExcuse Soccer tournament.

17 September 2019 | Attendees: 1200 | The FAN #NoExcuse team were asked to address this special gathering of students set up to specifically address the recent high profile cases of Gender Based Violence.

13-15 September 2019 | Attendees: 41 | The camp was held at Willowpoint, the lush and scenic headquarters of Outward Bound South Africa. As the weekend progressed the men’s enthusiasm and enjoyment of the process grew.

8 September 2019 | Attendees: 140 | The event kicked off at 13h00 on Sunday with men lining up to receive a #NoExcuse T-Shirt. The #NoExcuse message delivered by FAN was well received by all in attendance and the pledge taken with enthusiasm.

7 September 2019 | Attendees 120 | We set up at Viv’s corner on Saturday 12h00 and men started filtering in almost immediately. The owner of the Tavern was a great supporter of the event and we asked him to say a few words as we kicked off.

23-25 August 2019 | Attendees: 90 | This Champ Camp was held in the closing weeks of winter at the stunning Lapa Lala Wilderness reserve famous for its success in Rhino conservation. Participants ranged in age from 25 to 83 and included two men with disabilities. We were immediately impressed by their level of passion, humility and engagement.

10 August 2019 | Attendees: 1000 | On a dusty winter’s morning 56 of 80 teams that had committed arrived to compete in this six-a-side soccer tournament. Proceedings started with the customary #NoExcuse message delivered by FAN and the players standing to take the pledge.

9 August 2019 | Attendees: 900+ | The Takuwani Riime Foundation (formerly the Alex men’s forum) approached us with the idea of a men’s march through Alex on women’s day to pledge the support of men for women. They did an outstanding job of organising the event and pulled together all the relevant organisations and officials to make it happen.

27 July 2019 | Attendees: 1600 | 81 teams arrived on a clear winter day at Westville Old Boys Sport Club to compete in the #NoExcuse soccer event. The round robin and knockout games were played in great spirit, helped in no small way by a group of cheerleaders who performed throughout the day.

July 2019 - Date | Attendees: 2377+ | The Alex Champion Conversations has been a stand-out success story. 10 mentors from Alex were selected and taken through a training programme to equip them to facilitate conversations with groups of men from their communities.
Primary School Father’s Meeting, Alex
13 July 2019 | Attendees: 45 | The principal of Iphutheng Primary School approached the Alex Men’s Forum and FAN to address fathers and male guardians. He was concerned about the lack of involvement of male parents in their children’s lives and wanted to expose the fathers in the school to the #NoExcuse message and provide them with training on authentic masculinity.

6 July 2019 | Forty men gathered at the Alex Library on Saturday morning, 6 July, at the request of five Izindunas partnering with the Alex men’s forum. Izinduna is a Zulu word which means leader or advisor. Izinduna were advisors to the chiefs and kings and are highly regarded.

21-23 June 2019 | We partnered with The Character Company (TCC) to take the 10 mentors we selected from Alex through a 3-day, 2-night experiential training programme in the foothills of the Magaliesburg mountains.

31 May - 2 June 2019 | Attendees: 89 | The Alexandra men’s Champ Camp took place on the banks of the Vaal River at the Takwasa Camp facility near Parys. The weekend culminated in a group pledge and the men left feeling inspired to go back to their communities as changed men to make a difference.

25 May 2019 | Attendees: 1850 | Teams started arriving at 7am on a mild winter’s day in Port Elizabeth and play got off to a start just before 10 after the players took the #NoExcuse pledge and sang the national anthem.
Orbit TVET College, Rustenburg
23 May 2019 | Attendees: 350 | The Rustenburg campus is one of three Orbit TVET College campuses and has a student body of 3800. There was a very positive spirit at the workshop, with both male and female students engaged in conversations around healthy and unhealthy masculinity and femininity.

The scheduled workshop at this campus couldn’t go ahead as there was student protest action on the campus due to National Student Financial Aid (NSFAS) allocations.

21 May 2019 | Attendees: 300 | Brits is the second largest of the three Orbit TVET College campuses with just under 3,000 students registered. This was the first campus at which we had a 100% male audience.
Champ Camp, Hopetown
17-19 May 2019 | Attendees: 90 | Our first Champ Camp of the year was held on the banks of the Orange River just outside Hopetown at a campsite traditionally used by hunting groups in the winter months. The 90 participants were drawn from the surrounding communities and ranged in age from their early twenties to late fifties.
